2011-2012 Teacher Mini-Grant Program

This year the Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation was able to provide another fantastic round of Teacher mini Grants. To see a detailed list click here!

2010-2011 Teacher Mini-Grant Program

The Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010-2011 Teacher Mini Grants:

  • Voice Recording in the K-12 Classroom - This grant will be used to provide students with voice recorders and integration training to allow teachers to use voice recording as a meaningful strategy to enhance teaching and maximize student learning.
  • Integrating Technology Using Flip Cameras for 3rd Grade - This grant will be used to integrate technology in the curriculum for a variety of projects throughout the school year.
  • Introducing Robotics Technology
  • Getting Creative - This grant will be used to purchase a Cricut Expression Machine and the necessary cartridges to use it, which will allow 8th grade students to create artistic projects (posters, signs, bulletin boards) that exemplify the learning process and visually enhance the language arts classroom.
  • Learning About Teen Lifestyles in Other Nations - This grant will be used to purchase instructional materials to use for reading instruction in Academic Literacy Social Studies and to expand and diversify students' perspectives of their peers in other nations.
  • Learning to Throw (Pottery) on a Wheel - This grant will provide elementary school students an opportunity to further their sculpture skills by learning techniques on the pottery wheel.
  • Robotic Control Systems and Real-World Technology - This grant will be used to introduce, explore and reinforce concepts from physics, engineering and other areas of science/technology by using student-constructed robotic systems
  • MAPLE for the Classroom - This grant will be used to upgrade five MAC laptops with advanced mathematics software that is used in the higher education/workplace environment.
  • The Tone Chime Project - This grant will be used to purchase 25 bells (chimes) to be used by all Northwestern Elementary students for developing student proficiency in playing melodic and harmonic material.

2009-2010 Jason Obyle Teacher Mini Grants

The Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2009-2010 Jason Obyle Teacher Mini Grants:

  • Automatic Electric Egg Turners - This grant will be used to solidify understanding of the animal life cycle using a hands-on experience.
  • First Grade Standards-Based Cross-Curricular Workstations - This grant will provide first grade students with standards-based, cross-curricular workstation activities to complete during small group independent times.
  • Read-Along Listening Center - This grant will provide students with a listening center.
  • The Geometer's Sketchpad: Dynamic Geometry Software for Exploring Mathematics - This grant will provide students with a tangible, visible way to explore and understand core geometric concepts.
  • Creating a Podcast - This grant will help students learn the steps it takes to create a Podcast.  Still will also learn various audio applications and different audio file extensions used to create a Podcast and audio files.
  • Video Cameras for the Middle School Gifted Classroom- This grant will help students complete activities and projects in the gifted classroom, which will further enhance learning about the judicial system, creating commercials, and evaluating debates.
  • Orienteering Markers - This grant will help students learn about map reading through orienteering, learn to orient their own maps, and locate positions on a map.
  • Web 2.0 Integration - This grant will provide students with opportunities to work with new software applications and various technologies. It will also provide the community with creative and interesting broadcasts of what is going on in our district and tutorials on various software applications.
  • Merriam-Webster Speaking English Dictionary and Thesaurus Acquisition for 6th Grade Learning Support Classroom- This grant will further support learners and foster independent reading through technology.
  • Kids are Writers, Too!- This grant will enhance first grade students' writing lessons through the use of children's literature.
  • Math Connections - This grant will provide math manipulatives for independent exploration during workstation time, as well as math manipulatives for teacher-directed remediation and enrichment.
  • Digitally Integrated Photography- This grant will integrate digital photography into the 3rd grade curriculum will motivate students, increase learning, further integration of technology with PSSA standards and promote social interaction.
  • Upgrade Speech/Language Materials for Autism Spectrum Disordered Students with Social and Auditory Processing Deficits - This grant will update speech/language assessments to be used to diagnose social language skills/auditory processing language skills.  It will also assist children with ASD Spectrum including Auditory Processing Disorders with support for their speech/language weaknesses/delays/disorders.

2007-2008 Jason Obyle Teacher Mini Grants

The Northwestern Lehigh Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2009-2010 Jason Obyle Teacher Mini Grants:

  • “First Grade Digs Plants!” – This grant will be used to give first grade students a hands-on experience in studying plants, while enhancing the grounds of Northwestern Lehigh School District.
  • “Homeward Bound Books” – This grant will be used to enhance the reading fluency of students through the Reading Intervention Department.
  • “Math and Reading Manipulative Mania” – This grant will be used to effectively differentiate instruction in the Kimberly Firkal’s third grade classroom.
  • “Hand Drum Project” – This grant will be used for the expansion of the music program, both in the classroom and for stage presentations. 
  • “The American Gumbo Presentation” – This grant will be used to host an assembly celebrating multiculturalism in America at Weisenberg Elementary.
  • “Weisenberg Library Program” – This grant will be used to purchase a laptop computer for the Library, thus expanding the resources of the Weisenberg Librarian to all areas of the school.
  • “Mathematics in a Whole New Style” – This grant will be used to provide visual demonstrations of graphing, functions, statistical analysis, etc. while students follow along in Alan Hack’s eighth grade classroom. 
  • “Technology Program” – This grant will be used for a SmART cart for the High School Art Department, allowing safe and secure drying and transportation of student art projects.
